David Wells
Prior to their game against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays on Friday, the Boston Red Sox activated pitcher David Wells from the 15-day disabled list.
The veteran lefthander had been on the DL since April 14 with a right knee sprain.
Wells, 43, began the season on the DL after undergoing offseason knee surgery. He made his season debut against the Toronto Blue Jays on April 12 but was rocked for seven runs and 10 hits in four innings in an 8-4 setback.
Wells, who will get the ball against the Devil Rays on Friday night, made one rehab start on Sunday for Class AAA Pawtucket, yielding two runs and four hits in five innings at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
In a related move, the Red Sox optioned outfielder Dustan Mohr to Pawtucket. He was batting just .175 (7-for-40) with two home runs and three RBI in 21 games with Boston.
